Family Therapy

Do you want less yelling and fighting in the house?  Do you feel like you're always on edge or walking on egg shells?  Having a healthy functioning family is important to both you and every family member in the house.  I work from a systems perspective, when one part is off it throws the entire system off.  We will work together on identifying each family members concerns and developing a plan to work together.  A brighter future does await you and your family!

1. Phone Consultation

I provide FREE 15-20 minute consultation with the caregiver(s) of the family to discuss the reason for treatment, expectations, and scheduling. It's important for you to find the correct therapist for yourself and your family. Here you have the opportunity to see if I'm the right fit and to ask any questions you may have about the therapy process or my therapeutic style.

2. Schedule and Complete Paperwork

During our consultation we will schedule our sessions. I will send all paperwork to be completed PRIOR to our first session. This may include Family History Form and other assessment reports that may be needed.

3. Assessment/Evalutations

The first 2-3 session will consist of an intake evaluation for me to get to know you and your family. First session, depending on the age of the children I will meet with the caregivers to get an overview of the family strengths and reasons for bringing you into therapy. At this time we will go through a family history. Second, I will meet with the whole family. During this session the family will engage in several directive activities for therapist to evaluate communication, interactions, and family dynamics. If necessary I will add other evaluation sessions in before treatment begins. Third, we will meet as a family to establish family goals and expectations in therapy.

4. Weekly Therapy

Weekly session there after will follow a specialized treatment plan to address your family needs and build strengths.

5. Ending Therapy

When treatment goals have been met, we will begin planning for the completion of family therapy. This is a collaborative process involving the therapist and the whole family. To support a healthy and thoughtful transition, we will typically plan for 2-4 sessions to prepare the family for the end of therapy, with the final session date shared in advance. This allows time to reflect on progress, celebrate growth, and help the family feel comfortable with the transition. When clinically appropriate, we may also gradually reduce sessions to bi-weekly or monthly before completing therapy. In addition, it we may end family therapy in order to individuals within the family to meet with an individual therapist to work on their needs. Each family is unique, so this process will always be tailored to best support the individual needs of your family.
